Torres Porta Fira

The Torres Porta Fira project is a complex with 80,107.67 square metres of floor area, comprising two 117-metre-tall towers, one for the hotel and the other for use as an office building. The complex is strategically situated between two major developments, the Plaza de Europa city improvement plan area and the Fira 2000 project. The towers have become the gateway to L'Hospitalet from El Prat Airport.

Hotel Santos Porta Fira, designed by architect Toyo Ito and b720 Arquitectos, the studio led by Fermín Vázquez, has a total floor area of 34,688 square metres, 26 above-ground floors, a ground floor and two basements. It has 320 rooms.

Shaped like a lotus blossom whose contour changes depending on the viewer's standpoint, the building is a striking sight clothed in a latticework of bright red aluminium pipes. Because of the relationship between ball-and-socket joints, aluminium pipes and structure, the design clings gently and smoothly to the entire façade, expressing rotation, translation and growth as it rises in height.

The functional focus of the second tower is set firmly on use as an office building. The tower is a right-angled affair. At first glance it appears to be a straight prism, sheathed in a subtly recessed glass curtain wall, but the building's red vertical core is organic in shape and becomes a reflection of the hotel tower. The office building has a floor area of 45,420 square metres.
Supplementing the tower complex, there is a shopping area at street level, in the ground-floor premises of the office building.
